This operation, called docking, provides concrete benefits for local tourism: safety and comfort for passengers upon disembarkation, and a expedited procedure that increases the time spent on land for tourists.
The arrival of the mostly English passengers and the crew of the tourist boat at the OXXEAN multipurpose terminal took place at 3:20 p.m. today, Thursday, February 11th. This was a very efficient and rapid docking operation, which subsequently allowed the visitors to disembark from the cruise ship to the port, board their buses, and tour the main attractions of Puerto Montt and the Llanquihue Lake Basin.
Mario Santana, assistant operations manager at Puerto Chincui, explained the importance of this type of vessel docking at the terminal. “The arrival of this cruise ship makes us very happy because it is directly related to our objectives as a multipurpose port. It is a milestone that follows the first shipment of containers with salmon for export by sea in the southern region, which we carried out a couple of weeks ago, and the shipments of live cattle we made a few months ago,” he stated.
The executive highlighted the advantages for local tourism when a cruise ship docks at a port. That is, it arrives directly at a terminal, such as in Puerto Montt, where tourism is an increasingly important activity, driving the local economy. «It’s safe and convenient for tourists, because they disembark from the ship to the port. It also increases the visitor’s stay in the area, with benefits for the local tourism community,» he explained.
The cruise ship Saga Pearl II arrived from Valparaíso to Puerto Montt and sets sail tonight for Castro, Chiloé.
