7,300 Hollstein-type heifers from the Los Lagos, Los Ríos, La Araucanía, and Bio Bío regions of Chile were shipped through OXXEAN Puerto Chincui.
The event, the first of its kind in the country due to the number of heifers and the logistics involved in transporting them to the ship that will take them to the Asian continent, took place on December 26, 2014, and was supervised by the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Furche.
The shipment is a commercial transaction for the company Minerva. The heifers were transported by Fegosa in 60 trucks to Puerto Chincui, where they boarded the Polaris 2 freighter for a 26-day journey to China.
This is the first time that live cattle have been shipped by sea from Puerto Montt.
